Rahul Dravid will coach the Indian cricket team on the tour of Sri Lanka. In the absence of head coach Ravi Shastri, Rahul has always been the favorite candidate to take charge of the limited-overs squad. Rahul Dravid, who has been coaching and mentoring the U-19 team and the A-side, is no stranger to the role. Several young players like Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw have been coached by Rahul Dravid. In addition, the former Indian batsman has been responsible for providing the senior cricket team with talented cricketers over the years.

Shaw has recently recalled the experience of being mentored by Rahul Dravid during the 2018 U-19 World Cup. The opening batsman was the captain of the Indian team, which went on to clinch the trophy. The 21-year-old batsman has stated that all the players were a little scared of Rahul Dravid despite him joining them for dinner. However, Prithvi Shaw also added that Dravid never forced anyone to be like him. Shaw added that Dravid instead suggested everyone stick to their natural game.

Rahul Dravid has coached India A and India U-19 sides

Rahul Dravid has earlier been the batting coach of India during their 2014 England tour. The former has also coached the India A and India U-19 sides later. India's most prolific number three batsman is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid will be traveling with the Indian cricket team for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. The report also indicates that other members of the NCA, including Paras Mhambrey, will be accompanying Rahul Dravid. Like Rahul Dravid, Mhambrey has also been in charge of the India A and Under 19 teams as their bowling coach. The Indian cricket team will feature all white-ball specialists and gen-next players. Considering Rahul Dravid has already worked with quite a few young players during his India A and India U-19 days, it will be an easier task for the veteran.

The Indian cricket team will reach the Island nation on July 5. Three ODIs will be played on July 13, 16, and 19. It will then be followed by T20Is on July 22, 24, and 27. All the games will take place in Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The entire team will need to quarantine both before and after their departure from Sri Lanka. The series will begin with the first ODI on July 13, while the final T20I will be played on July 27.
