The Indian Super League 2022/23 (ISL) is ongoing and the teams are giving it their all to make it to the summit clash and clinch the win. FC Goa, who are having a decent ride in the tournament so far, went down against ATK Mohun Bagan FC on December 28, Wednesday, with a scoreline of 2-1.

With the win, the Green and Maroon Brigade made it to the third place in the points table, while the Gaurs, on the other hand, remained at Number 5, given that it was the second consecutive game for the latter without tasting a win. Anwar Ali turned out to be the sole goal scorer for FC Goa, helping the team match the lead scored by Dimitri Petratos.

Hugo Boumous scored the lead for Mohun Bagan FC in the 52nd minute, eventually helping the team clinch the win at the stroke of the final whistle. FC Goa’s boss Carlos Pena, opened up on the loss and claimed that his side evened the intent in the first half until their mistakes cost them their match in the second half.

I think it was a very equal game: Carlos Pena

Saying that the game was well within the hands, Pena claimed that the Gaurs made a big mistake in the deciding half, eventually letting Boumous score the lead for the Green and Maroon Brigade, helping the team take away the 3 points.

“I think it was a very equal game. In the first half, they scored first with the action of the striker (Petratos) and we were not focused in that moment. But the team came back after that moment. We started controlling the game and playing in the opposition half. We could have scored before half-time and we went into the dressing room with a good feeling. The game was where we wanted (it to be),” Pena was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.

“But in the second half, we made a big mistake.. knowing that they are very dangerous in these transitions and they punished us. After that, we tried, but with no order. We created less chances than what we wanted. I tried to make some changes, but it didn’t work and we couldn’t get the three points,” he added.
