The 15th edition of the Hockey World Cup will begin on 13 January 2023. It will run until 29 January in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. The tournament will happen in two different stadiums. In the last edition in 2018, Belgium won the World Cup. Team India lost against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals by two goals to one.

So, this year the Men in Blue will look to do well and win the World Cup in India. They have won only once this title so far in their history. So, ahead of the World Cup, team India’s captain Harmanpreet Singh came up with some revelations about the dressing room at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium.

“In Rourkela, the atmosphere will be doubly exhilarating.” - Harmanpreet Singh, team India captain

Ahead of the World Cup, Harmanpreet Singh said: “There is anticipation and excitement in equal measure. As the team bus entered Rourkela city and drove closer to the hockey facility, there were thousands of fans who thronged the streets with tri-color flags and cheered for us. We were simply speechless by the gesture, and it was then that we actually got a sense of how much hockey means to the people of this region.”

After the World Cup in Kalinga Hockey Stadium in 2018, every single participating team went back with great memories and it was the spectators, the incredible venue, the hospitality, and the way everything was executed that made the previous World Cup so special for players. In Rourkela, the atmosphere will be doubly exhilarating,” Harmanpreet Singh added.

Amit Rohidas, the Vice Captain of the team said: “There is already a festive atmosphere here in Rourkela and Bhubaneswar. It’s been almost a week since we arrived here and the energy is incredible.” India are with England, Spain, and Wales in Pool D. Their first match will be on 13 January against Spain at the Birsa Munda International stadium in Rourkela. Team India fans will hope to see them win this prestigious title for the second time in their history.
