Chennai have announced that Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy. He has handed back the leadership responsibilities to MS Dhoni for the remaing games of the Indian T20 League 2022. Earlier, MS Dhoni had given the reigns to the all-rounder ahead of the commencement of this season.

According to an official statement from the franchise, Jadeja asked Dhoni to lead the franchise once again so that he could focus on his game. "MS Dhoni has accepted to lead Chennai in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game," the Chennai statement read.

Under the leadership of Ravindra Jadeja, Chennai have had a forgettable season so far. In the eight games they have played so far, Chennai has only won two out of them. They currently stand at the ninth position in the points table. The men in yellow are on the brink of being knocked out from the race to the playoffs. Besides, Jadeja hasn't been at his best either. With the bat, he has scored 112 runs at an average of 22.4. With the ball, he has picked up only five wickets in the season at an economy rate of 8.19.

MS Dhoni's first match after taking over the captaincy duties will be against Hyderabad on the 1st of May at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Meanwhile, Twitter had great reactions to MS Dhoni returning to captaincy. A fan suggested that this was the perfect script for them to win the title this year. "Looks like a very good script. CSK win all 6 game and make it to playoffs on account of their superior NRR. They go on to win the finals and dhoni retires on a high. Will this happen? Only time will tell but won't be surprised if it does either," read the tweet.
