Lionel Messi is arguably the best player of this generation. Besides, he grabbed the headlines for his sensational move to PSG last year. His move was one of the biggest football surprises ever as Messi, being a Barcelona legend, was expected to finish his career at the Spanish club. The unexpected transfer came as a result of LaLiga’s financial regulations preventing the club from extending the legend's contract.

Messi, playing alongside his Barcelona teammate Neymar, did not have a great first season in Ligue 1. In the first season, the magical Argentinian could only score six goals for the French outfit. Yet, the 35-year-old extended his contract with the Ligue 1 winners.

A new report however suggests that Messi could make a return to his former club Barcelona. Club President Joan Laporta had earlier said, “I don’t believe Messi’s chapter at Barcelona is over.”

"And I believe it is our responsibility to make sure that chapter is still open, that it hasn’t closed. To have a moment to do it how it should have been done so that he may have a much more splendid ending than what he had. I feel like I owe him one? Yes.” added Laporta

It is said that Laporta's relationship with Messi soured towards the end as the club President was not ready to pay the legendary player what he asked.

Barcelona have been struggling for a couple of years on the pitch as well as financially. They are however en route to regaining their former glory with a sensible transfer market strategy.

When asked the same question about Messi’s return to Barcelona, their head coach and former player Xavi said that it didn't make sense.

"Makes no sense to speak about Lionel Messi's comeback at Barcelona right now, he's under contract with PSG so it's impossible. We'll see in the future," said Xavi, as quoted by Daily Post.

Barcelona have recently signed Robert Lewandowski, Rafinha and Andres Christensen. In the pre-season match, they defeated their arch rivals Real Madrid by one goal. They play Juventus on 27th July.
