Hyderabad beat Chennai by eight wickets to register their first win of the Indian T20 League 2022. Batting first, Chennai had a poor start as they lost their openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (16 runs in 13 balls) and Robin Uthappa (15 runs in 11 balls) within the powerplay. Washington Sundar got rid of Uthappa while T Natarajan cleaned up Gaikwad's stumps with a fantastic delivery. At the end of the powerplay, Chennai was at 41 runs for two wickets. Ambati Rayudu and Moeen Ali then stitched a good partnership for the fourth wicket.

They added 62 runs on the board, which proved to be very crucial for the team. Ali just missed his fifty as he was dismissed by Aiden Markram on 48 off 35 balls. He hit three fours and two sixes before departing. Rayudu scored 27 runs in 27 balls while Ravindra Jadeja also played a cameo of 23 runs in 15 balls.

However, Chennai crumbled down to 154 runs as they lost five wickets in the last seven overs. Natarajan and Sundar took two wickets each in their spells, while Markram, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Marco Jansen all had a wicket to their name.

In return to Chennai's 154, Hyderabad had a conservative start. These tactics worked out well for them as Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson had a great partnership. The two played some brilliant shots as they took calculative risks. Sharma, in particular, was the star of the innings. They added 89 runs together before Kane Williamson fell to Mukesh Choudhary in the 13th over. He scored 32 runs with two fours and a one-handed six.

Sharma continued to play well and was joined by Rahul Tripathi. Both played well and Sharma went on to score his maiden ITL half-century. He scored 75 runs in 50 balls with five fours and three sixes before he fell to Dwayne Bravo in the 18th over.

Tripathi then finished off the game with a four in the same over. He scored 39 runs in 15 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. Dwayne Bravo and Mukesh Choudhary took the only two wickets of the game.
