In a delightful piece of news for Team India and Indian cricket fans, star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has started wicketkeeping practice ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. Notably, he is expected to make his comeback to the Indian team after a long break due to an injury he sustained earlier this year.

The selectors picked KL Rahul in India’s squad for the upcoming continental championship, alongside another injured batter Shreyas Iyer. The duo might play a crucial role in India’s middle order in the two upcoming major international tournaments, including the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023 in their backyard.

KL Rahul’s role is going to be very vital for the men in blue as he might be there in the role of priority wicketkeeper-batter in the playing XI, for both the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.

Just a few days back, the veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also spoke about the importance of Rahul in the middle order of the Indian batting lineup. “Ever since Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni retired, India were desperately looking for a replacement. Rahul has filled that slot with expertise. He is a definite lock at No5 and is also our wicketkeeper-batsman," said Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel.

Notably, the Karnataka batter has been a consistent performer for India in the ODI format. He has scored 1986 runs in 52 innings of the 54 matches he played for India averaging 45.13. In these matches, the 31-year-old has also scored 5 centuries and 13 half-centuries with the willow. He will also be given the additional responsibility of wicketkeeping, alongside batting in the middle order during the upcoming assignments for India.
