Cricket West Indies has recently announced a provisional squad for the forthcoming series against the South African team. The series will commence on June 10 and will be held at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. Jayden Seales has been selected and is a part of the 17-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series. The 19-year-old pacer has only featured in one first-class, three List A, and six T20 matches after making his debut back in August 2020.
Jayden Seales made headlines in the 2020 U19 World Cup, where he grabbed ten wickets from six games at an economy rate of 3.89. His best bowling figures of 4/49 came against Australia and also helped WI to a three-wicket win. The young fast bowler was also a part of the Trinbago Knight Riders. The team had won the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Kraigg Brathwaite to lead West Indies against South Africa
Jayden Seales also featured in a match for the Brathwaite XI against Roston Chase XI when the WI played a home series against Sri Lanka. In that match, the youngster had scalped four wickets. On Monday, June 7, the 17-man squad is going to be cut down to 13. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether Seales will make it to the team or not. On the other hand, fast bowler Chemar Holder is going to miss the series due to injury. Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the team after his impressive shows in both the tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The West Indies team has also selected Nial Smith, Marquino Mindley, Keon Harding, and Preston McSween as net bowlers. These players will help the squad prepare for the upcoming series. Talking about the WTC points table, West Indies are placed sixth in the points. The Caribbean team has a win percentage of 33.3. On the contrary, the Proteas are seventh in the list with a win percentage of 30. Earlier this year, South Africa lost their Test series against Pakistan. In their tour of the West Indies, they will also play five T20I games at the National Cricket Stadium, St George’s, Grenada.
