West Indies take on Sri Lanka in a 2-match Test series at home starting from 21st March. This will be their first Test assignment at home since August 2019. The Caribbean team experienced mixed fortunes in their last eight Test matches. They have won 4 and lost four games. In fact, in their previous 20 Test games, there has not been a single draw.
West Indies began their 2021 home season in an enthralling way. They defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the T20I series and have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. And needless to say, West Indies will now be looking to continue their excellent form when they wear the whites against Sri Lanka. On the other end, Sri Lanka has lost the last four Test games they have played and will be looking for a turnaround in fortunes.
Jason Holder and Darren Bravo return to the Test squad
The West Indian side announced the squad for the first Test match against Sri Lanka. Jason Holder will no longer be the captain as opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite has been given the captaincy reins for the game's most extended format. Jermaine Blackwood has been named as the vice-captain of the team. Darren Bravo, John Campbell, and Nkrumah Bonner are the specialist batsmen, whereas Jason Holder, Rakeem Cornwall, and Kyle Mayers are potent all-rounders in the team.
The West Indian team also has a solid pace attack in its arsenal for the first Test. Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach, Alzaari Joseph, and Kyle Mayers will form the pace unit for the first encounter. Specialist spinner Jomel Warrican has also been included in the squad. The first Test match between Sri Lanka and West Indies is going to take place at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium from 21st March 2021. The selection committee also announced the squad for the CWI President's XI to play against Sri Lanka in a two-day warm-up match at Coolidge Cricket Ground on March 17-18.
