In the 47th match of the Indian T20 League 2022, Sanju Samson's Rajasthan faced Shreyas Iyer's Kolkata. Rajasthan was asked to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium. They, however, got off to a sluggish start. Umesh Yadav dismissed opener Devdutt Padikal (two) in the third over. After losing an early wicket, Jos Buttler was joined by Sanju Samson. Both players have been in good form this season and the duo needed another good performance to take the team to a good score.

However, wickets kept falling for the men in pink at regular intervals. Buttler (22), Karun Nair (13) and Riyan Parag (19) couldn't do much.  Sanju Samson was the only player that lasted for a significant time.  He scored 54 in 49 balls before getting out to Shivam Mavi.

Shimron Hetmyer (27) played a little cameo to help Rajasthan reach 152/5 in their 20 overs. In the following innings, Kolkata changed their opening pair for the fifth time in a row. Aaron Finch and Baba Indrajith opened the innings, with little change in Kolkata's fortunes as both were dismissed in the powerplay. Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana kept the scoreboard ticking and added 60 runs in the partnership. Trent Boult, however, got Iyer's (34) wicket in the 13th over. Rinku Singh joined Rana, with Rajasthan needing 61 in 43 balls. The wicket was not easy and with quality bowlers up their ranks, the match could have taken a turn. However, the pair didn't gave Rajasthan bowlers a sniff, mixing caution with aggression, and stitched an unbeaten partnership to take the team home. Rana scored 48 off 37 balls, while Rinku Singh returned not out at 42 off 23 balls.
