'What is Dominance? Answer - Kiwis at home' - Fans elated as Tim Southee's men outmuscle Sri Lanka 2-0 in Tests

So, the group stage of the Test Championship 2023 cycle has come to an end with the dominant clean-sweep series win of New Zealand over Sri Lanka in the two-match Test series. The Blackcaps played this Test series in their own backyard against Dimuth Karunaratne’s men. The team played this series under the captaincy of recently appointed skipper Tim Southee.

New Zealand completely outmuscled the visitors by a big margin of an innings and 58 runs in the second and last of the two-match Test series. Both teams played this match at Basin Reserve in Wellington. Earlier in the first Test match of the series, the Kiwis won the match in a thrilling finish on the last ball of the match by the barest of margins.

Subsequently, the cricket fans were also elated following this convincing and comprehensive victory of Tim Southee & co. They took to Twitter lavish the praises on New Zealand as it was also the first Test series win for the team under the captaincy of Tim Southee.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Speaking of the entire action of the recently-concluded Wellington Test, the Sri Lanka skipper Karunaratne won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first. But this decision by Karunaratne backfired badly as the star New Zealand batters Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls outplayed the Sri Lankan bowling lineup.

The duo stitched a historic partnership of 363 runs for the fourth wicket in favor of the Blackcaps, both the batters scored individual double centuries. Interestingly, it was the very first time for New Zealand in history when their two batters scored double centuries in a single Test innings.

Kane Williamson scored 215 runs alongside the unbeaten knock of 200 by Henry Nicholls. Later on, the hosts forced Sri Lanka for a follow-on, but the visitors couldn’t reach NZ’s total of 580/4 (dec) even after batting two innings.

Eventually, NZ won the match by an innings and 58 runs and clinched the series by a margin of 2-0. Former skipper and batting superstar, Kane Williamson won the 'player of the series award for his brilliant performances with the bat throughout the entire series.
