Playing together for Bangalore for 11 seasons, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli have become great friends. The two have shared some great moments on the field including their 200 run stand against Gujarat in 2016. The two are great admirers of each other.
AB de Villers played for Delhi before joining Bangalore in 2011 but only played to his true potential after joining the Kohli-led side. De Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of the game after the 2021 season of the Indian T20 League.
In a YouTube show 'RCB podcast', AB de Villiers said that he can't keep friendships for long due to his cricket commitments, but Virat was an exception as the connection with former India skipper came naturally.
"I wished Virat Kohli played together with me in South Africa, I am not a guy who keeps friendship for long time as we keep moving due to cricket but with Virat, it came naturally even we were playing together only for just 2 months in a year," he said.
In the 184 innings that ABD played in the tournament, he scored 5162 runs at an average of 39.7. He has a great strike rate of over 150 and has 3 centuries to his name and as many as 40 half-centuries. Most of these runs have come playing Bangalore.
With AB no longer available, Bangalore will look for a suitable replacement for him. They have Glenn Maxwell, but the two are very different types of players. Bangalore retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the auction. They must now be prepared for the upcoming mega auction to be held in Bangalore on the 12th and the 13th of February.
