Sri Lanka defeated Australia by four wickets in the third T20I match to conclude the series. Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lankan captain, turned out to be a hero when he led his side through the chase. While the team was unable to win the series, they were able to redeem themselves in the final match. Yet, Australia won the series by 2-1.
In the third T20I, Australia batted first and had a decent run. The majority of the batters had nice cameos to putting the team into a comfortable position in the first innings. The men in yellow managed 176/5 on the board.
In the chase, Sri Lanka were struggling to keep up with the rate. They kept losing wickets regularly and were unable to get a lot of runs. They lost their fourth wicket for a team score of 96 runs in the 13th over. The team skipper Dasun Shanaka walked in with 81 runs required in 46 balls.
He was a little slow, to begin with, as he scored just six runs in the first 12 balls that he faced. After a while, the equation came down to 57 runs required in the last three overs. It seemed as if the game had slipped out of the grasp of Sri Lanka. However, Shanaka was at his very best as played a brilliant knock.
He shifted gears and started striking the ball with all his power. In the next 13 balls that he faced, Shanaka scored 48 runs. He hit four sixes and five fours in these 13 balls to win his team the match. This was the highest score ever in the last three overs by any player. His brilliance led the side to victory with one ball and four wickets remaining.
In the meantime, Twitter was stunned by the brilliance of Shanaka. "Imagine scoring the highest score ever scored in the last 3 overs by any team and we did it against Australia. SL team got the potential maaaan," a fan pointed out.

Dasun Shanaka has just pulled off one of the all-time great T20 heists.
Sri Lanka needed 59 off the last three overs against Australia and he was six off 12 and struggling.
He then hit 48 off his next 13, with Sri Lanka completing a last-ball victory. Astonishing.#SLvAUS pic.twitter.com/vnGss0M97x
