'When everyone's talking about you, make it count' - S Sreesanth lashes out at Sanju Samson amidst latter's frequent omissions from India squad

Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has been in the headlines for a long time due to his frequent omissions from the Indian squad. Recently, it all happened when the selectors ignored Samson while they were picking the Indian squad for the ongoing three-match ODI series against Australia. However, it was not the first time Samson was ignored by the selectors.

Earlier, there have been a lot of instances when Samson couldn’t make it to the squad of the men in blue in some of the major international assignments, including the bilateral series and the multi-nation tournaments as well. He got support from a lot of cricket fans and cricket experts for being consistently ignored by the senior squad.

Meanwhile, the former India and Kerala pacer S Sreesanth has come up with a blunt and brutal assessment when speaking about Sanju Samson and his omission from the squad. Sreesanth also felt that time is not something that is going to wait for you.

"I think it's the right decision because it's very important for a player to understand himself. From Gavaskar sir to Harsha Bhogle sir and Ravi Shastri sir, everyone rates him highly. There's no doubt about his ability. But the approach... he doesn't listen when someone asks him to play according to pitch. He can change that attitude,” said S Sreesanth to Sportskeeda during an exclusive interview.

“Whenever I meet him, I tell him just one thing: "Sanju, please read the wicket.” – S Sreesanth

"Whenever I meet him, I tell him just one thing: "Sanju, please read the wicket. Wait, don't go after every bowler. Think. You can hit anyone anywhere anytime, just wait for the opportunity. All of Malyali people who support him, including me, say he doesn't get chances. We can't say that. He got chances against Ireland and Sri Lanka, he has been playing IPL for 10 years. He has been playing since 2013, has been the captain too, and has scored just three 100s and he hasn't shown consistency,” he added later.

Furthermore, Sreesanth also spoke about the importance of time and the arrival of some new youngsters which might come in the way of Samson’s entry into the Indian squad.

"I'll say, 'Waqt kiske liye nahi rukta' (time doesn't stop for anyone). Everyone talks about time; I'll also tell the same to Sanju. A lot of good people are coming in. Even the two keepers going for the Asia Games (Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma). When everyone's talking about you, make it count. Getting sympathy is very easy, but appreciation is difficult,” Sreesanth said.
