The current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is under the scanner for his fitness. Currently, Sharma is leading the national side of India in the ongoing four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy where the team is leading by a margin of 2-0. But still, it seems that former legendary Indian skipper Kapil Dev is not happy with the fitness of Rohit Sharma.

“It is very important to be fit. More so for a captain. It’s a shame if you are not fit. Rohit needs to put some hard work on it,” said Kapil Dev to ABP News in an interview.

“He is a great batsman but when you talk about his fitness, he looks a bit overweight, at least on TV. Yes, it’s different when you look at someone on TV and then in real life. But from whatever I see, Rohit is a great player and a great captain, but he needs to get fit. Look at Virat, whenever you see him, you say, ‘that’s some fitness!’ he added later.

Notably, the 64-year-old had talked about Rohit’s fitness in a few earlier interviews where he praised the latter’s abilities and skills; but also questioned the level of fitness at the highest level of the game.

The captain should be someone who motivates the other players to get fitter - Kapil Dev on Rohit Sharma

“There’s no shortcoming in Rohit Sharma. He has everything but I personally think, there is a huge question mark over his fitness. Is he fit enough? Because a captain should be someone who motivates the other players to get fitter, the teammates should feel proud of their captain,” said the 1983 World Champion skipper in another interview previously.

Talking about the current cricket, Rohit has decent batting stats to his name in the ongoing four-match Test series against Australia. He has scored 183 runs in three innings of the two matches he played so far with a commendable average of 61.00; including a brilliant and crucial century in the first Indian innings of the Nagpur Test.

Now, Rohit will be in action with the Indian team in the third of the four-match Test series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore from Wednesday, the 1st of March.
