'Whenever Sachin put his bag down, I will put my bag near him' - Maxwell sheds light on his admiration for Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar is one of the most followed and highly admired cricketers of all time. Along with Indian cricketers, several overseas players also see Sachin as their inspiration. Among the many players is Glenn Maxwell. The Australia all-rounder is a huge admirer of Sachin Tendulkar. Maxwell has many times gone on record to reveal the impact of Sachin on his life.

Once again, Maxwell has opened up Sachin Tendulkar, revealing how he helped him become a better cricketer. While speaking on the RCB podcast, Maxwell revealed that every time Sachin used to keep his bag down, he too use to put down his bag near Sachin and then go to him to talk about cricket and Sachin was always open to a discussion, helping him improve as a cricketer. Sachin Tendulkar and Maxwell played together during the 2013 Indian T20 League.

"During Mumbai Indians days, whenever Sachin put his bag down on match days, I will put my bag near to him for talking and learning cricket a lot from him - he liked it a lot, was so open and helped me to develop a lot as a cricketer," said Maxwell on RCB podcast

Maxwell also spoke about the impact of the Indian T20 League on his life. Maxwell said in addition to the financial aspect, the Indian T20 League improved his cultural awareness. He added that he owe a lot to the tournament.

"The IPL has changed my life in an amazing way that I have been able to meet some of my heroes, some of the people I have admired playing for or against, playing under. It's changed me as a cricketer and it has changed me as a person. I wasn't possibly as culturally aware as a young player coming to India. When I was in India this year (2021), it was the 24th time I visited the county which is quite a few times in your 11-year career."

"The people I have met, the things I have learnt from the IPL that have helped me as a cricketer and more importantly as a person has helped me grow into a person I am today. I owe the IPL a hell of a lot because not only has it helped me be a better person but also it has helped me as an international cricketer. Been able to adapt to situations that I never thought I would ever see and the IPL exposes the international cricketers to those situations," he explained.

Meanwhile, Maxwell has been retained by the Bangalore franchise for the Indian T20 League 2022 for a sum of INR 11 crore.
