The Indian Cricket Board on Thursday announced the squad for the five-match T20I series against the West Indies. This series is set to be played in the West Indies and the United States of America.

The Board has already announced the squad for the three-match ODI series starting on 22nd July where Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

As expected, Virat Kohli has been rested for the series once again. The speculations of him being rested were doing the rounds much before the squad announcement. Other notable omissions from the squad are wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and seamer Umran Malik.

The one man that made headlines after being included in the Team was the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The off-spinner last played a T20I game against New Zealand in November 2021 and has been recalled to the squad for the West Indies series. He was brought into the team last year for the 20-20 world cup where he played three games.

The other two notable inclusions in the team were the star batter KL Rahul and left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. However, their inclusion in the team is subject to them proving their fitness as both are recovering from injuries. KL Rahul underwent surgery in Germany and will be seen on the field for the first time after the Indian T20 league.

The five-match T20 series will start on 29th July and the matches will begin at 8:00 pm IST. The series will be the second last series for India before the 20-20 world cup this year. The team will look to finalise their squad by giving opportunities to the young guns who’ve performed exceptionally in the recent Indian T20 league.
