The star Caribbean wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran is currently in action for Lucknow in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League. Notably, the franchise bought him for a massive amount of INR 16 crores. He is also the most expensive wicketkeeper-batter in the 15-year-long history of the Indian T20 League.
Pooran has impressed with the bat in the two matches he played so far for Lucknow in the tournament. The southpaw played a quick knock of 36 runs against Delhi in their campaign opener. Whereas, he played another cameo of 32 runs off just 18 balls with two boundaries and three sixes with the wood in the second match of Lucknow against Chennai.
Meanwhile, the commentator and former Indian batter Suresh Raina happened to take a dig at the explosive batting of Nicholas Pooran against Chennai. The moment came when the Caribbean batter smashed an amazing six in a reverse sweep over star Chennai all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the 15th over of the Lucknow innings.
Just after this shot, Raina said during commentary, “not sure which ‘chooran’ Nicholas Pooran had in Lucknow.”
Lucknow fell a few steps short of the second consecutive win in the tournament
Speaking of the match, it was a high-scoring affair between Chennai and Lucknow at the jam-packed MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The visitors’ skipper KL Rahul won the toss and asked Chennai to bat first; although the star opening pair of Chennai, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Devon Conway proved KL Rahul wrong with an amazing opening partnership of 110 runs for the first wicket.
Gaikwad’s 57 runs off 31 balls and Conway’s 47 off 29 balls helped Chennai to post a total of 217 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi scalped three wickets each alongside one wicket claimed by Avesh Khan.
Later on, while chasing the target, Lucknow fell 13 runs short and lost the match by 12 runs; they could score 205 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the entire 20 overs.
Star Chennai all-rounder Moeen Ali won ‘the player of the match award for his match-defining bowling performance in favor of the four-time champions.
