New Zealand and India are set to play in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final from June 18. This highly anticipated match is scheduled to be held at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Since the Test is going to take place at a neutral arena, the ICC had to figure out a way to allow the dressing rooms to the two teams.
To ensure fairness, the WTC points chart was used as the benchmark for deciding the home team. Team India had the most points with a total of 520 while the Kiwis came a close second with 420 points. Based on this, the Indian Team will be playing as the home team in the upcoming WTC Final.
Ravichandran Ashwin stated some of the advantages of being part of the home team at the Ageas Bowl. While speaking on his latest vlog on his YouTube channel the Indian off-spinner described the dressing rooms. He noted that the dressing room for the away team is uncomfortably small. He also mentioned that the viewing area for the guest team is smaller. His YouTube channel has 686K subscribers and the latest video has over 226K views.
India reached England on June 3rd to complete quarantine
Due to England’s newly relaxed quarantine guidelines, the team came out of quarantine earlier than expected. The cricketers have started practicing in full swing. Just yesterday, the Men in blue played an intra-team match in preparation for the big game against the Kiwis.
At the practice match, the Indian team gave a good performance. Rishabh Pant was in especially good form and scored 50 runs. The batsman-wicketkeeper also showed some aggressive batting making him one to watch in the upcoming Final. Some other players such as Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli were also on top form in the field.
Arzan Nagwaswalla also took to the field to practice his bowling. The Gujarat left-arm seamer provided good practice for his teammates. The Indian batsmen will be able to get used to the bowling to face Trent Boult, the most probable opener for the Blackcaps. The Indian Team will have to make full use of these practice sessions to adapt to the conditions. The batsmen are most likely to be challenged by the Duke balls and will need to get used to those.
The Kiwis are busy playing their second Test match against England. They are currently in the lead on the third day of the Test series.
