Gujarat beat Chennai by seven wickets in the 62nd match of the Indian T20 League to secured a spot in Qualifier 1 of the playoffs. A strong bowling performance kept Chennai at bay in the first innings. Following that, a brilliant batting effort by Wriddhiman Saha ensured the win for Gujarat.

Chennai won the toss and decided to bat first in the day game at the Wankhede Stadium. The men in yellow made a few changes to their team but their opening pair remained intact. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway opened the innings. However, Conway (five) was dismissed without troubling the scorers much. Post that, Moeen Ali (21) and Gaikwad added a 57-run partnership. However, the scoring rate saw a big dip. When Moeen was dismissed in the 9th over, Chennai was 65-2. N Jagadeesan (39* of 33) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (53 off 49) were the only batters who were able to make some contributions. However, their slow strike rate meant that Chennai could only post 133-5 in 20 overs, which was way below par.

Wriddhiman Saha wasted no time in the chase and played some crisp shots. Saha along with Shubman Gill added 59 runs in the opening partnership. Matheesha Pathirana got the breakthrough wicket of Gill (18) in his debut game in the 8th over. Gujarat lost a couple more wickets after that but Saha kept playing superbly and scored a brilliant half century (67). Along with David Miller (15), he took the team comfortably over the line.
