David Warner

In a piece of very recent and shocking news for the fans, the veteran Australian opener David Warner has decided to curtain down his Test career after the red-ball series against Pakistan in the ‘not-so-distant’ future. He also indicated that he might call it a day just before the two-match home Test series against West Indies.

The senior southpaw was in an interaction with the reports on Saturday just before the training of the Australian team. It was the moment when Warner made this announcement regarding his Test career with the national side of Australia.

"You've got to score runs. I've always said the (2024) T20 World Cup would probably be my final game," said Warner to reporters before the training of the Australian Team.

"I probably owe it to myself and my family - if I can score runs here and continue to play back in Australia - I can definitely say I won't be playing that West Indies series. If I can get through this (WTC final and ensuing Ashes campaign) and make the Pakistan series I will definitely finish up then,” he added later.

Meanwhile, cricket fans came up with a lot of reactions to David Warner’s announcement of his retirement from the longest format of the game. Fans took to Twitter to recall the brilliant contribution of Warner in Test cricket and also discussed his lean patch with the bat in red-ball cricket during a recent couple of months.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Now, in the very near future, Warner will be in action with the Aussie side in the World Test Championship 2023 Final against India. Both teams will play this coveted title clash at The Oval in London from the 7th of June, Wednesday, 3.30 PM (Indian Standard Time)

Apart from that, both the teams have also announced their complete squads for the final Test of this World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.
