Former Australian captain Steve Smith stated that winning the Indian Premier League this season is the ultimate goal. The Delhi-based franchise is one of the only three teams that have not won a single IPL title yet. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings are the other two franchises. Surprisingly, all three IPL teams have managed to reach the final. RCB lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2016, and Kings XI Punjab failed against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 final. Talking about Delhi Capitals, they lost to Mumbai Indians last year in UAE.

Former Australia captain Smith is keen to win his first IPL trophy. The Australian batsman was previously associated with the Rajasthan Royals. RR, who retained Steve Smith in 2018 for Rs 12.5 crores, finished at the bottom in the points table in IPL 2020 under his captaincy. Steve Smith has amassed 2333 runs from 95 matches in the IPL while scoring 311 from 14 games last season. However, the Jaipur-based franchise released their skipper ahead of the mini-auction.

Eager to guide the Delhi Capitals to their maiden IPL title this year: Steve Smith

At IPL 2021 mini-auction, Smith was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹2.2 crores. During his appearance on DC All Access show, the Australian batsman accepted that he is eager to guide the Delhi Capitals to their maiden IPL title this year. Steve Smith has featured in two matches in the IPL 2021 so far. He has scored 42 runs at an average of 21 and a strike rate of more than 100.

In the last match against MI, Steve Smith and Shikhar Dhawan formed a crucial 53-run partnership for the second wicket. Courtesy of the victory, Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals are now sitting at the third spot on the points table. They are just below Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings. RCB haven't lost a single match so far in IPL 2021, whereas Chennai Super Kings have just lost one game so far. Delhi Capitals won their first match against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The Delhi-based Franchise lost their second match against Rajasthan Royals. However, they bounced back more robust in the third game and won against Punjab Kings. Delhi Capitals will next play against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
