On 9 July 2023, Sri Lanka took on the Netherlands in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifiers. Both these teams managed to qualify for the final and confirmed their berth in the mega event which is all set to take place in India later this year. Speaking of the match, the Dutch skipper, Scott Edwards won the toss and opted to field first.

While batting first, Sri Lanka got bundled out for 233 runs in 47.5 overs. For them, Sahan Arachchige was the highest scorer with 57 runs off 71 balls, including four fours. For the Netherlands, four different bowlers took two wickets each while Aryan Dutt picked up one wicket.

We never wanted to play a qualifier tournament and that is what the rest of the boys believe.” - Dasun Shanaka

But, in reply, Sri Lanka bowlers ran carnage as the Dutch got bundled out for 105 runs in 23.3 overs. Dilshan Madushanka took three wickets and won the Player of the Match award. Along with him, Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets and Maheesh Theekshana grabbed four wickets. Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams won the Player of the Tournament award for scoring 600 runs and taking three wickets.

After winning the final, Sri Lanka skipper, Dasun Shanaka said: “Prior to this tournament, we had a good series against Afghanistan. Coming here, everyone in our team wanted to prove that we are a better side than to play the qualifiers. We wanted to put up our best performances. Only concern was injuries. Apart from that, we had full control in every game and in every situation. The top order, middle order, the bowlers - everyone performed very well. We never wanted to play a qualifier tournament and that is what the rest of the boys believe. Playing the qualifiers puts pressure and winning it is a big thing (for us). I want to thank Cricket Zimbabwe for organizing this tournament, and all the Zimbabwean fans, Sri Lankan fans in Zimbabwe and all our supporters around the world.”
