The Indian team failed to perform in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. But some players gave an above-par performance in the title match. With the end of the WTC final, India would have a month off to prepare for the five-match test series against England. It is expected that the team combination would change before the England series. The changes would probably be made based on the performance of the players in the title match against New Zealand.

Some players who failed to perform in the WTC Final are as follow:

Cheteshwar Pujara

Cheteshwar Pujara failed to make good runs with the bat in both innings of the title match. It was one of the main reasons behind India’s low total. He failed to make any substantial contribution with the bat and was dismissed for 8 and 15 runs respectively in the two innings.

Moreover, he dropped an important catch of Ross Taylor in the second innings. It led to New Zealand’s victory over India by eight wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah

Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah failed to take any wickets on a seamer-friendly track in Southampton. He was unable to hit the right lengths and lines.

The only chance Bumrah had of taking a wicket was of Ross Taylor. He had managed to get Taylor to edge one-off to Pujara. But the Indian batsman had failed to take that catch. Thereby, Bumrah was not successful in the English conditions in the WTC final.

Rishabh Pant

In the second innings of the title match, Rishabh Pant had made 41 runs for India. But his aggressive swipe in the first inning, when he was dismissed for four earned him a lot of criticism. He was out for just four runs in the first innings. Moreover, his shot selection in the second season was also not good enough to save his wicket. It has resulted in a heated discussion about his approach to playing Test cricket and his batting technique.

Before the WTC final, Pant was rising steadily in Test cricket. He had established himself as a capable wicketkeeper-batsman in the Indian team. But it remains to be seen if he would get a to play against England.
