According to Aakash Chopra, Team India would have to make New Zealand bat for at least 50 overs to secure a win. The World Test Championship final would enter Reserve day without any indication of a definite result. But if the weather holds as per the forecast then the match could get washed out.
In a recent YouTube video on his channel, Aakash Chopra explained how India can secure a win in the WTC final. He stated that New Zealand would play a reasonable number of overs to get bundled out in the fourth innings. There are 98 overs yet to be played. But two of those overs would be for the changeover. So if India gives 50 overs to New Zealand then they would have 46 overs to themselves.
The cricketer-turned commentator reasoned that a target of 200 runs in 50 overs would be good for New Zealand. Therefore the Kiwis would have to score at least 4 runs per over. Thereby, with 64 runs on board for India in the ongoing innings, the team would just need to score 176 runs. It means India would also have to score almost 4 runs per over in 46 overs. According to him, Team India can put the necessary score on board.
Aakash Chopra further added that in a bilateral series, 180 runs would also get considered a good target. But for the WTC final, being on the safer side would give India an advantage.
Aakash Chopra opined that Cheteshwar Pujara is like an insurance policy
Chopra explained that Cheteshwar Pujara would not play fast because he is like an insurance policy. Thereby, batsmen on the other end would have to make quick runs. If they do that, then the Indian batting performance would become phenomenal.
Aakash Chopra also added that players like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ajinkya Rahane would have to make good runs. It would help the match move forward quickly and put some good target runs on board for New Zealand.
Aakash Chopra did not seem convinced that the WTC final would have a clear winner. Thereby, he concluded that the match could end in a draw. But team India has a history of pulling off surprising wins. So, India can win in the title match against New Zealand.
