Aakash Chopra wants the Indian team to go in with five prolonged bowling attacks for the WTC finals. He wants to include Ashwin and Jadeja in the mix as the two spinners.

India will clash against New Zealand in the World Test Championship final from 18th June at Southampton. The match will take place in Southampton at the Aeges Bowl, which is a venue that had previously been helpful for spinners.

Aakash Chopra commented on the Indian bowling lineup in a video shared on his YouTube channel. He said that both Ashwin and Jadeja should play as New Zealand is not the best at playing spin. So five bowlers should be played including two spinners. He believes both of them could perform well in English conditions.

Chopra also considered the fact that spin bowling is not always effective in foreign conditions. So he wants the Indian team to play a variety of bowlers in the championship final. According to him, if the attack is unidimensional, then the batting becomes easy.

In the past as well, under Virat Kohli, the Indian team usually go with five bowlers in the playing XI. If India follows the same route then definitely five specialist bowlers would play the game.

Rishabh Pant should bat at number 6

Aakash Chopra opined that Rishabh Pant should bat at number 6 with Jadeja and Ashwin at number 7 and 8 respectively. Three fast bowlers should be lined up after them. He thinks would form an effective combination unless there the pitch has grass left on it.

The 43-year-old concluded that the pit in Southampton would less likely have green on top. It would prove redundant for the spin bowlers. So Jadeja and Ashwin should definitely play in the World Test Championship final.

Moeen Ali set a great example for spinners on how effective they can be on the Southampton pitch. In India’s last two visits to England, the English off-spinner took 17 wickets across two tests. His performance factored into India’s defeat in both those tests.

After the one-off Test against New Zealand for the WTC final, India would play against England. It would be a five-match test series between the two nations starting from 4th August.
