Former Indian cricketer and selector Gagan Khoda criticized three of the Indian team management’s decisions that led to their defeat. He pointed out that the management underutilized players like Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw. According to him, Mayank Agarwal should have been selected over Shubman Gill.

Gagan Khoda stated that Shubman Gill is more like VVS Laxman. Thereby, he would play better in the middle order than as an opener. India should have picked Mayank Agarwal for the World Test Championship final. He had only two bad Tests but he is a better opener. Even Prithvi Shaw was not selected after just a single failure in Australia.

According to Gagan Khoda, all-rounder Jadeja was under bowled. India should have opted for a seaming all-rounder like Shardul Thakur for the title match. His form would have better suited the English conditions.

Mohammed Siraj should have played in place of veteran player Ishant Sharma

Gagan Khoda opined that players like Siraj and Shardul Thakur should have played in the WTC final. They had performed impressively in Australia and helped India secure an incredible win.

Siraj should have played instead of Ishant Sharma who had just recovered from an injury. The English overcast condition was suitable for swing bowling. But no other seam bowler was swinging the ball like Mohammed Shami. Thereby, Shami was successful in taking four important wickets and created good pressure on Kiwi batsmen.

Mohammed Siraj could have added more swing to the ball than Ishant Sharma. Even Shardul Thakur would have been a good option for India. He is also able to swing the ball well.

The former opener also expressed surprise at the omission of Bhuvneshwar Kumar from the Indian team. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is good at swinging the ball and he does it in both ways. Thereby, he should have been in the India squad for the England tour.

New Zealand defeated India by 8 wickets in the World Test Championship final. The Indian batting unit failed to perform well in both innings. Even the bowling attack was indifferent and unsuccessful. Those are the major factor that led to team India’s defeat in the title match.
