Kyle Jamieson was extremely pleased after taking the wicket of Virat Kohli. Jamieson successfully sent back the Indian captain to the dugout on Day 3 of the championship final.
Kyle Jamieson got the ball to nip back in and hit Virat Kohli on the pads. It dismissed Kohli with just 44 runs of contribution with the bat.
After the game, Kyle Jamieson spoke to the media and expressed his satisfaction at getting the wicket. He stated that Virat Kohli is a world-class batter and he didn’t have too many weak points. Thereby, Jamieson was ecstatic to get his wicket. Virat Kohli is an important part of the Indian batting lineup. Thereby, getting his wicket early helped New Zealand. Initial Jamieson was pleased to wobble the ball and keep the runs in check. But getting Kohli’s wicket was a bonus and it turned the game for New Zealand.
On Day 3 of the title match, Kyle Jamieson was the star player. He took five wickets for just 31 runs. His delivery to take Virat Kohli’s wicket boosted his confidence and helped him get his rhythm. Moreover, he consciously pitcher the ball forward after he had bowled shorter deliveries on Day 2.
Jamieson consciously adjusted his delivery length for Day 3
The 26-year-old discussed his change in strategy as well during the post-game interview. Jamieson stated that the ball that dismissed Kohli was not his natural delivery length. It is because as a taller guy, the bowler is naturally going back of a length. Thereby, he had felt a little bit throughout day 2 of the tournament while bowling at a modified length. But he felt freer when he was able to bowl at his full length. So, he just changed his strategy to bowl at a better length and make the ball wobble a bit. It ll for him.
Kyle Jamieson concluded that the delivery which took Virat Kohli’s wicket would have troubled most batsmen. He needed to have proper control of the ball to deliver it at that particular length and a bit away from the batsman. Thereby, it takes even harder control from the batsman to play that bowl no matter the amount of experience. So it was not necessarily Virat Kohli who would have trouble playing that delivery.
Kyle Jamieson also became the first New Zealand bowler to get a five-wicket haul in his first eight Test matches.
