At the start of the match, his thought process was to take good wickets and bowl a tight line. It is because, the less New Zealand would score, the better would be India’s chance of winning. Shami carried forward the good momentum and got as many wickets as he could.
During the Day 5 match, Mohammed Shami had a good rhythm and helped India get back into the game. Otherwise, the Kiwi batting unit looked unbreakable and they were scoring at a steady pace. Shami stated that he just gave his full effort to fulfill the responsibility he was given. He needed to take wickets to get India back into the game. Thereby, he tried to build pressure on Kiwi players and took important wickets. Shami stated that he had a discussion with skipper Virat Kohli about picking up the wickets. After deciding on a proper length and line, he began his attack and successfully picked up 4 four wickets.
Mohammed Shami does not regret that he could not take five wickets
Many fans felt he deserved to have a five-wicket haul on Day 5 after his impressive performance. But Shami does not feel any regret about it. He opined that playing for India and representing his nation makes him feel proud. When a player is bowling long spells, it is obvious to get tired. But he never felt bad about not have a five-wicket haul. He does not think along that line and focuses on working hard. Moreover, remaining positive matters the most for a sportsman.
During the second innings, India ended the day at 64 runs at the loss of 2 wickets. Both the openers Rohit Sharma (30) and Shubman Gill (8) loss their wickets. The match is scheduled to head into the Reserve day on Wednesday.
