According to Shane Warne, New Zealand could be in trouble if India scores more than 275 runs. He expressed disappointment with  New Zealand for not playing a specialist spinner. The pitch would most probably assist spinners as the match would go on.

Both the teams have taken a contrasting approach in selecting their playing XI. The Indian team has decided to play two specialist spinners for the title e match. But the Kiwis favored an all seam attack for the match. Thereby, Shane Warne opined that if the ball is seaming on the pitch then it would turn as well. It would spin big with the footmarks developing on the pitch.

The impact that the two Indian spinners would have when they come to bowl remains unknown. But the runs India would put on board could provide a huge assist in winning the title match. Currently, India has made 106 runs at the loss of three wickets. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are at the crease right now.

The Kiwis played to their strength with an all pace attack: Salman Butt

Former Pakistan batsman Salman Butt supported that New Zealand picked an all seam attack based on the conditions. The Indian team is a good player of spin. So it was a logical decision to not play specialist spinners.

Salman Butt also contradicted Shane Warne and stated that New Zealand does not have quality spinners to tackle Indian batsmen. But India has World-class spinners like Ashwin and Jadeja who could bowl at the English conditions well. So India chose to play spinners. Meanwhile, New Zealand decided to play by their strength in the final match with an all-pace bowling lineup.

Salman Butt further added that Warne did not specify which spinner New Zealand should have played. They have Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner in the spin department. But Santner’s form has been poor and he was not even picked in the 15 member squad for the final. He had also failed to take wickets of proper batsmen against Pakistan and dismissed just tailenders. Thereby, Indian batsmen would have easily scored 60-70 runs in Santner’s 10 overs. So it was a good decision to not play a spinner against the strong batting lineup of India.
