BCCI president Sourav Ganguly believes that the current Team India will be at the top of their game when they play against NZ in the WTC final. The ultimate clash between the two teams is set to take place at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton from Friday. The veteran Indian batsman further stated India is well balanced ahead of the final clash. Ganguly feels that the hard work the side has put in in the last two years has seen them reach the Final of the maiden edition of the World Test championship. The former Indian captain is sure that Virat Kohli will be looking forward to making the WTC final a memorable one.
There have been a lot of assumptions on whether team India should go in with four pacers and one spinner or three pacers and two spinners. Talks have also revolved around picking one pacer between Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj. However, Sourav Ganguly stated that he is sure the Indian coach and captain will make a decision on the playing XI after looking at the surface and conditions.
Team India finished on top of the WTC points table with 520 points
The WTC is scheduled to be played from 18 to 22 June, with 23 June kept as the Reserve Day. The International Cricket Council has clearly stated that if the match results in a draw or a tie, both the teams will be crowned as joint winners. Additionally, there will be allocation of a Reserve Day to make up for any lost time during the regular days of the Final. All these decisions were made in June 2018, before the inception of the competition.
The Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli finished on top of the points table. They have grabbed 12 wins from six series and 520 points. On the other hand, NZ finished second with 420 points. They won seven Test in five series. The New Zealand cricket team will be relying on their recent series-winning form against England. In contrast, India will hope to shine with their batting attack comprising of Kohli, Rohit, Rahane, and Pujara. Virat Kohli will be aiming for his first significant ICC trophy at the senior level as he missed out at the ICC 2019 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy.
