WV Raman penned a searing letter to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and NCA head Rahul Dravid.
WV Raman wrote the letter after being sacked and replaced by Ramesh Powar. He mentioned the celebrity culture in the women’s national team. The changes needed for the improvement of the team were also mentioned. The CAC led by Madan Lal did not continue with him as the head coach. The decision came even after he guided the team in 2020 to the T20 world cup. The match was played against Australia in the Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG) in front of more than 80,000 fans.
WV Raman has always believed in the team being placed first above everyone
The 55-year-old former head coach in his letter has asked Sourav Ganguly to take a call on the matters he highlighted. He felt constrained by that star culture within the team. Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid should decide if the coach has asked for too much from the team.
Raman’s letter is surely going to ruffle some feathers. Especially, since it has always been players who have been at advantage. The coaches always have to either step aside or get sacked. In a similar fashion, Ramesh Powar had to step aside after being accused by Mithali Raj. He was accused of being biased towards her. The accusation was made after Raj was removed from the playing eleven of the 2018 T20 semi-finals. The match was played against England. Powar on the other hand defended himself by asserting Mithali Raj of throwing tantrums.
Raman is also not pleased with being alleged that as a coach he was not proactive. He underlined the fact that he oversaw three training sessions in UAE during the 2020 women’s T20 challenge.
If the BCCI president wants to hear Raman’s side of the story about the allegations, he would be allowed to explain. The NCA is in charge of building coaching modules or training programs for cricketers. If the former coach has inputs regarding the training module then Rahul Dravid is the best person to contact.
