Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is officially announced to be out of the upcoming 16th edition of the Indian T20 League. After this the Mumbai-based franchise have decided to replace him with right-arm fast bowler Sandeep Warrier as a replacement player. Warrier has played only 5 matches in the cash-rich league so far and has played for the Bangalore and Kolkata-based franchise earlier.
Talking about Warrier, the 31-year-old speedster has already joined Mumbai and is also available for the match against Bangalore on April 2. Warrier made his debut in international cricket in the year 2021, when he got a chance to play a T20 match on a tour of Sri Lanka. Apart from this, in the year 2019, he got an opportunity to make his first appearance in the Indian T20 League. However, he managed to take only 2 wickets after playing 5 matches so far. If we talk about his career in the shortest format, so far he has taken a total of 62 wickets in 68 matches.
Bumrah's injury update will be kept secret: Reports
Meanwhile, Bumrah is suffering from the back injury he got in 2022 due to which he missed many major tournaments last year. After spending a long time in NCA, it was decided to undergo surgery due to no improvement in his injury. After this, it is not yet decided for how long Bumrah is going to stay away from the cricket field. In the absence of Bumrah in the upcoming season, Joffra Archer will be seen leading the fast bowling of the Mumbai-based franchise.
Meanwhile, recently it was reported that Bumrah’s injury status will be kept secret and only former Indian legendary batter and NCA chief VVS Laxman is reportedly aware of the specifics of the recovery process and the severity of the injury.
“Not many in the Indian Cricket Board are aware of his injury. Only VVS Laxman (NCA director) has been assigned to speak to him and the physios. Even the selection committee has been told that they will be informed about Bumrah’s actual injury and his rehab details in due course.” Reported by the Indian Express.
