'Ye hui na baat' - Fans react as Indian Men's and Women's football teams receive approval from ministry of sports to compete at Asian Games 2023

Great news for all the football fans as the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports approved both men's and women's teams to compete at the premier event, and football is now expected to represent India at the 2023 Asian Games. The news comes weeks after it was revealed that the two teams would not compete in the continental competition due to current sports ministry requirements.

Many well-known members of the Indian football community showed up and made a public request to the authorities to approve the Sunil Chhetri and Ashalata Devi-led teams. Anurag Thakur, the union sports minister, finally made the announcement that Indian football fans had been waiting for on Wednesday, confirming that both Blue Tigers and Blue Tigress would be competing in the championship game, in light of their recent series of outstanding performances.

"Good news for Indian football lovers! Our national football teams, both Men's and Women's, are set to participate in the upcoming Asian Games. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, has decided to relax the rules to facilitate the participation of both teams, which were not qualifying as per the existing criterion. Keeping in mind their latest performances in recent times, the Ministry decided to grant the relaxation. I am sure they will put their best foot forward in the Asian Games and make our country proud," Anurag Thakur tweeted.

On the basis of the teams' rankings in Asia, which is also home to regular World Cup participants Japan and South Korea among others, it was previously stated that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) was not interested in sending either team. As support poured in from all sides, including national team head coach Igor Stimac, who asked the government to send the squad for the tournament, the government's requirements were dropped.

In a lengthy social media post, Stimac had actually pleaded with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step in and permit the team's participation. On numerous social media sites, the supporters also banded together and promoted the cause with trending hashtags.

Let's look at some of the tweets from fans about it:
