India and Australia locked horns in the third and last of the three-match ODI series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The visitors’ skipper Steve Smith won the flip of the coin and decided to bat first at the mixed supportive surface of MA Chidambaram. Batting first, the Aussies managed to post a total of 269 runs in 49 overs after losing their all wickets.

While chasing the target, Rohit Sharma’s men scored 248 runs in 49.1 overs to lose the match by 21 runs. The fans also came up with a lot of disappointed reactions following this amazing final match of the series between two cricketing powerhouses. They took to Twitter to lavish praises on Australian followed by criticism for the men in blue.

Talking about the entire action of the match, the Australian side once again got a strong start of 68 runs for the first wicket in 10.5 overs from the in-form opening pair of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh before the former fell prey to star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Head scored 33 runs off 31 balls followed by Marsh’s run-a-ball knock of 47 runs with eight boundaries and a six to his name.

Other than these two, it was wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey who played a steady knock of 38 runs off 46 balls with two boundaries and a six. Apart from this, the other Aussie batters also contributed with a few crucial individual knocks of 20+ runs to take the team’s total to the score of 269 runs in 49 overs.

Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav scalped three wickets each for India alongside two wickets each claimed by Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel.

While chasing the target, the hosts got a good start with the opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and young batter Shubman Gill; the dup stitched 65 runs for the first wicket in 9.1 overs before Rohit got caught by Mitchell Starc at deep square leg on Sean Abbott’s delivery.

Former skipper and batting superstar Virat Kohli played a knock of 54 runs to stabilize the inning but he was also trapped by Agar in his web. Other than Kohli, star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya played an individual knock of 40 runs.

Eventually, India couldn’t chase the target of 270 runs and could score only 248 runs; Australia won the match by 21 runs to win the series by a margin of 2-1.

Adam Zampa won the ‘player of the match award for his brilliant match-defining performance in favor of Australia.
