Rajasthan Royals regained the top spot in the points table of the Indian Premier League 2023 after defeating Gujarat Titans in their fifth match of this ongoing season. Both teams played this 23rd match of the 16th edition of the tournament at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The visitors’ skipper Sanju Samson won the flip of the coin and decided to bowl first at the mixed-supportive surface of NMS, Ahmedabad.

Batting first, the Titans posted a total of 177 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. While chasing the target, Rajasthan Royals recovered from the early blows and chased down the target to win the match by a close margin of three wickets to register their fourth win in the tournament.

The fans were also elated after the brilliant run chase from the Royals on the home ground of Gujarat Titans. They took to Twitter to lavish the praises on Sanju Samson’s men after a handsome win against the Titans.

Speaking of the action of the match, the middle order batter David Miller and young opener Shubman Gill played the individual knocks of 46 and 45 runs respectively. It quietly helped the hosts to put up a total of 177 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the first 20 overs of the game. Senior pacer Sandeep Sharma scalped two wickets alongside one wicket each claimed by Trent Boult, Adam Zampa, and Yuzvendra Chahal.

While chasing the target, the Royals were looking in trouble at a moment when they lost four wickets only on the score of 55 runs. It was the time when the skipper Sanju Samson and the blistering batter Shimron Hetmyer took the charge for the Royals; the duo stitched a partnership of 59 runs for the fifth wicket.

Sanju Samson played a swashbuckling knock of 60 runs off just 32 balls with three boundaries and six sixes to his name. Later on, Shimron Hetmyer went on score 56 runs off just 26 balls with two boundaries and five sixes to cross the finishing line for Rajasthan Royals.

Eventually, the visitors won the match by three wickets having Hetmyer as ‘Player of the Match for his match-defining knock in favour of Rajasthan Royals.
