Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals locked horns in the 17th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The hosts’ skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl first against RR. Batting first, the Royals managed to post a total of 175 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Later on, Chennai Super Kings came very close to the target but still, they couldn’t cross the line and lost the match by a very close margin. The match went till the last ball of the 20th over; interestingly, it was yet another last-ball thriller in the IPL 2023 during the last few days.

Speaking of the entire action of the match, Rajasthan Royals got an early blow only on the score of 11 runs when Yashasvi Jaiswal fell prey to Tushar Deshpande in the second over of the first innings. Later on, the senior opener Jos Buttler and young number three Devdutt Padikkal took the charge and stitched a partnership of 77 runs for the second wicket.

Buttler played a half-century knock of 52 runs off 36 balls with a boundary and three sixes following Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 38 off 26 balls including five boundaries. Other than these two, Shimron Hetmyer and Ravichandran Ashwin also played the important individual knocks of 30 runs each to help Rajasthan reach a total of 175 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Tushar Deshpande, Ravindra Jadeja, and Akash Singh scalped two wickets each for CSK alongside one wicket claimed by Moeen Ali.

While chasing the target, senior batters Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane stitched a partnership of 68 runs for the second wicket. Conway scored 50 runs with six boundaries alongside Rahane who played a quick knock of 31 runs off 19 balls with two boundaries and a six on his credit.

Other than these two, only Ravindra Jadejaand MS Dhoni scored 25 and 32 runs each for the hosts; but eventually, the yellow outfits fell four runs short of the target and lost the match by a very close margin of 3 runs.
