The ODI World Cup 2023 is just months away with the opener to be played on October 5, 2023. England and New Zealand will be in action in the opening game in a rematch of the previous edition’s final. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will be hosting the key fixtures including the opener, the clash between India and Pakistan, the game between rivals England and Australia, and the final game on November 19.

As such, the World Cup schedule has been a very big issue. Firstly, a few games had to be rescheduled due to them coinciding with Indian Hindu festivals. Notably, the ODI World Cup 2023 is coinciding with the festive season in India. The marquee clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan which was earlier scheduled for October 15 had to be preponed a day to October 14 on account of Navratri. Similar concerns were raised by West Bengal Cricket Association for a game in Kolkata coinciding with Kali Puja.

Further changes in the ODI World Cup 2023 schedule could be a big problem

A series of changes were made to the schedule and a revised schedule was released by the Apex Cricket Council. On the same day, it also released the phase-wise sale of tickets for the cricketing mega-event. Notably, the registrations for ticket sale is already live on the official website of the Apex Council. The first batch of tickets for the Warm-up games will go live on August 30.

However, in a recent development, the Hyderabad Cricket Association has raised security concerns about hosting two back-to-back games on October 9 and October 10. Notably, New Zealand and Netherlands play first followed by Pakistan and Sri Lanka on the very next day. This comes as a huge issue for the Indian Cricket Board and the Apex Cricket Council. If they are to reschedule these games, there may also be a further need to readjust the ticket sales due to the changes. However, nothing has yet been specified after Hyderabad raised the concerns. This is a developing story.
