West Indies vs India

In a recent piece of news, the hosts West Indies announced their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, with some big names. Some star players including the likes of Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder are not in the squad for the white-ball series against the men in blue.

Here’s a look at the West Indies squad for ODIs against India:

Shai Hope (Captain), Rovman Powell (Vice Captain), Alick Athanaze, Yannic Cariah, Keacy Carty, Dominic Drakes, Shimron Hetmyer, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Motie, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, Kevin Sinclair, and Oshane Thomas.

Although this squad and team combination didn’t go down well with some of the cricket fans; they immediately took to Twitter to come up with different opinions and responses. A section of cricket fans also felt that this team was way weaker than the one that lost to the associate teams in the ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Meanwhile, the chief selector Desmond Haynes also expressed his feelings on the comeback of some major players including Shimron Hetmyer and Oshane Thomas.

“We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the group. Both have played at the international level before, with some success, and we believe they will fit well into the set-up,” said Haynes in a statement by Cricket West Indies after the announcement of the squad.

"Oshane brings pace and is a potential wicket-taker with the new ball. Shimron’s style of batting will offer a lot, especially in the middle stage of the innings and he is also a potential ‘finisher’,” he added later.

Notably, the first ODI of the three-match ODI series between West Indies and India will be played on Thursday, the 27th of July. Recently, both teams locked horns in the just-concluded two-match Test series in which the visitors emerged victorious by a margin of 1-0. Apart from this, India and West Indies will also cross swords in the upcoming five-match T20I series following the conclusion of the ODI series.
