The England team has suffered a severe setback with the exclusion of top fast bowler Jofra Archer from the next Ireland Test and Ashes series in June and July 2023. The ECB said on Tuesday that Archer, who has been sidelined from the remaining IPL 2023, has been declared out for the remainder of the summer due to a stress fracture in his right elbow. The team for the Ireland Test was also made public by the Cricket Board.

Archer will not be able to play in any games for the remainder of the summer, according to a statement issued by England Cricket. "Sussex fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the rest of the summer after recent scans revealed he has sustained a recurrence of a stress fracture to his right elbow. He will now spend time with the England and Sussex medical teams, who will work on his injury management," ECB's statement wrote.

‘It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra’ – Rob Key

Rob Key, the managing director of the ECB for England Men's Cricket, also addressed Archer's fitness. "It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra Archer. He was making good progress until a recurrence of the elbow injury, which kept him out for an extended period previously. We wish him the best of luck with his recovery. I’m sure we will see Jofra back to his best and winning games for England, whatever the format. Hopefully, sooner rather than later," as reported by England Cricket, Key said.

The English and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that Archer had been "pushing through the discomfort" while playing and it had proved "challenging" last week after he had to leave the Indian Premier League early owing to discomfort in his problematic right elbow. Olly Stone will also miss several weeks of action after tearing his hamstring while representing Nottinghamshire.
