On 21 January 2023, team India locked horns with New Zealand in the second match of the ongoing home ODI series. The match took palace in Raipur. The home side were coming off after winning a close encounter. So, they were looking to win the match to seal the series. On the other hand, the Kiwis were looking to win the clash to keep their hopes alive.

However, it was the first international match in this new stadium in Raipur. Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. Both teams were unchanged from their last playing XIs. For the visitors, Finn Allen and Devon Conway came out to open the innings.

India defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the second ODI

However, Indian bowlers were on fire as they took four wickets in the first 10 overs only. They bundled out the Kiwis for just 108 runs in 34.3 overs. Only three batters managed to score in double digits. Glenn Phillips scored 36 runs off 52 balls. Apart from him, Michael Bracewell scored 22 runs off 30 balls while Mitchell Santner scored 27 runs off 39 balls. For India, Mohammed Shami took three wickets for 18 runs in six overs. Along with him, Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar took two wickets each. Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.

In reply, skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out to open the innings. They gave a solid start to the team. However, the first wicket fell after they scored 72 runs in 14.2 overs. Rohit scored 51 runs off 50 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. However, Virat Kohli got out early again after scoring 11 runs off nine balls, including two fours. Shubman Gill remained not out on 40* runs off 53 balls. Finally, the Men in Blue chased down the target in 20.1 overs. Thus, they won the match by eight wickets and sealed the series 2-0 with one more match to go.
