Team India are currently busy playing the limited-over series in New Zealand. However, the Men in Blue managed to win the three-match T20I series by 1-0 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. Currently, India are playing the three-match ODI series. They also lost the first match of the series while the second game got abandoned.

Meanwhile, after the 20-20 World Cup, reports came out that senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are going to be phased out from the T20I setup. Reports also suggested that senior players are going to miss a maximum number of upcoming T20Is. Now, regarding that matter, a source close to the Indian Cricket Board came up with a huge claim.

"The Indian Cricket Board never asks anyone to retire.” - Source of the Board about phasing out players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

While talking to PTI, a Board source said that they do not tell any player to retire. He said: "The Indian Cricket Board never asks anyone to retire. It is an individual decision. But yes, with just a handful of T20Is scheduled in 2023, most of the seniors will concentrate on ODIs and Test matches in that cycle.”

He added: "You don't need to announce retirement if you don't want to. You will not see most of the seniors playing T20 next year.” Speaking about senior players, they have taken a rest from the ongoing tour. However, team India are currently focusing on the upcoming 50-over format World Cup in 2023 in India.

As per the FTP calender, the Men in Blue will play 25 ODIs ahead of the World Cup along with 12 T20Is. Earlier while speaking to InsideSport, the senior official said: “It’s not that they will be forced to quit one format. But one has to understand that they are in their mid-30s and are two very crucial players for India. They need to be rotated and rested constantly for big series and major tournaments. But one cannot rotate a captain too many times. Since T20s will not be in focus, we have to phase out Rohit gradually when someone like Hardik, KL, or Rishabh is ready to take the charge.”
