Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah lit up the fifth Test when he smashed England Bowler Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over. Bumrah set the entire social media into a frenzy as he broke the world record for scoring the most runs in an over in Test cricket.

Bumrah was batting with Mohammad Siraj for the last wicket and was trying to add as many runs as possible to the scoreboard. He smashed boundaries after boundaries in the 84th over of the innings and launched an all-out attack against Broad.

The Indian Captain smashed the seamer all around the ground as he was bowling all over the place in the over. The 36-year-old seamer even bowled a wide bouncer that went away for four byes and also bowled a no-ball that was hit for a six. Bumrah hit 4 fours and 2 sixes in the over to break the world record.

Reactions poured in on the incident from all corners of the cricketing world as people couldn’t control their excitement about Bumrah’s achievement.

Former Indian batter and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar reacted to Bumrah’s power-hitting display in a Tweet that read, “Kya yeh Yuvi hai ya Bumrah!? 2007 ki yaad dilaa di..”, and mentioned Yuvraj Singh in that Tweet as well.

Broad now has the unwanted record of leaking most runs in an over in international cricket’s longest and the shortest format. Broad gave away 36 runs in an over during the early days of his career when he got smashed for six sixes in an over in a T20 international by Yuvraj Singh during the inaugural 20-20 world cup in 2007.

The record for most runs scored in an over in Test cricket was earlier jointly held by Brian Lara, Geroge Bailey and Keshav Maharaj who all scored 28 runs against Robin Peterson, James Anderson and Joe Root respectively. Now another England bowler has joined the list with Broad giving away 35 runs in the over.
