It is always crucial that a wicket-keeper is present in the game mentally. A bowler should be able to rely on him to get a better understanding of the game, as the keeper is the closest to a batsman. If it is someone like MS Dhoni behind the stumps, the bowler can be free of most of the tension. Yuzvendra Chahal in a conversation said he would blindly trust MS Dhoni behind the stumps while bowling.
The India leg spinner, who is struggling to maintain a spot in the Indian team at the moment, was at the top of his game when MS Dhoni was still around. MS Dhoni last played in the Indian team in 2019, and Chahal has seen a downfall in his performance ever since.
It is fair to say, Chahal's performance has not been up to the mark. His figures against South Africa are proof of that. He only had 2 wickets in the three ODI games. He was left out of India's squad that travelled to UAE for the 20-20 World Cup last year.
Speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin on 'DRS with Ash,' Chahal said, "I blindly trust Mahi Bhai. The biggest plus point is that 50% of our job will be completed even before I come to bowl. He gives all information like the pace of the ball, where to ball, which line, field placement and all".
The 31-year old will be next seen in the white-ball series against West Indies starting from the 6th of February. Whether he gets a chance in the playing XI or not remains to be seen as there are a few others who can take the spot.
