Rishabh Pant emerged as a star performer for India across all formats in the last few months. It started with the Test series in Australia. India leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal opined that Pant has become mentally tougher over the past few months.
In an interview, he said that Pant’s game has seen a change more in the mental aspect than the physical aspect. His batting style has remained intact but he has become tough mentally. Pant has a more clear vision of what he wants to do on the field. He has begun to take responsibility for his performance. Chahal remembered the time when Rishabh Pant came into the team midway through the 2019 World Cup. Pant was really hurt when India had lost that semi-final against New Zealand. Chahal was there for him as an elder brother. He spoke with him and helped Pant come out of it better.
According to Chahal, the century in Ahmedabad and the Gabba knock has been two of Rishabh Pant’s finest batting performances. In Australia, he scored 89 not out at the Gabba. His stint helped take India to victory. Even in the fourth test against England held in Ahmedabad, he managed to put 100 runs on board. The ball was turning a lot on that day. Those knocks proved his maturity as a batsman and his hunger to perform for the team. Earlier his performance was not consistent but it is now. He has understood what needs to be done to succeed. Chahal is glad that he has taken the responsibility and is cementing his worth.
Saba Karim also commented that Rishabh Pant played a huge role in India qualifying for the WTC final
Former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim named Pant as the reason behind India reaching the World Test Championship final. He pointed out Pant’s significant contributions to the team in recent months.
Karim further commented that Rishabh Pant will have to play a huge role in the WTC final and the five-Test matches in England. He had also made significant contributions to the team both with the bat and with the wicketkeeping gloves. In IPL 2021 Rishabh Pant had to lead the Delhi Capitals after regular captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the league. The team had an impressive run under Rishab’s captaincy. In fact, the Delhi capitals were on the top of the chart when the T20 league was postponed due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
