All eyes were on team India when they went to Australia for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. But, they failed to win the title once again. In the semi-final, eventual winners, England thrashed them by 10 wickets. So, it was another setback for the Men in Blue and their fans. However, Dinesh Karthik was a part of that squad.
He also failed to score significantly for the team in that tournament. Dinesh Karthik scored just 14 runs in three innings, at an average of 4.66. Meanwhile, after the World Cup loss, fans slammed team management for considering Ravichandran Ashwin over Yuzvendra Chahal. Now, regarding that matter, Karthik has opened up and said that Chahal would have created more damage than any other.
“But Chahal would've definitely made a lot more damage, it could've been an interesting choice.” - Dinesh Karthik on Yuzvendra Chahal
While talking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said: “These are all calls that are taken by the captain and coach with the belief they had in a certain player. To be fair, Ashwin started the tournament well but probably didn't end well. But Chahal would've definitely made a lot more damage, it could've been an interesting choice. But hindsight is a very interesting thing to look at once the results come out.”
“All in all, if we look at the overall picture of the World Cup and Asia Cup, we expect a lot of better from Team India and that's the right way to put it,” the veteran wicketkeeper added. Speaking of Chahal, he did not play a single game in the tournament. Earlier also, Dinesh Karthik confirmed that it was completely team management’s decision and they already made Chahal and Harshal Patel clear about it.
While speaking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said: “They didn't sulk once or get upset once because they were very sure. At the start of the tournament, they said that under these conditions we would be playing you otherwise, it might be hard. So they were very aware and were preparing in such a way that when getting an opportunity they will try and do their best but there might be a chance that they end up not playing.”
