On 20 December 2022, England managed to whitewash Pakistan in the three-match Test series in Pakistan. After a long gap of 17 years, England came to Pakistan to play a Test series and they won the series by 3-0. Babar Azam and his men had a chance to strengthen their position in order to get qualified for the final of the World Test Championship.
But, they failed miserably by losing all three matches. Fans were not happy with the result as it was the first time Pakistan lost four Test matches in a calendar year. Babar Azam had a good tournament with the bat but his leadership qualities were questioned throughout the series. Fans blamed Babar behind England’s performance in the series.
Fans slammed Shaheen Afridi for showing support for Babar Azam
However, after the loss, Babar Azam said: “We were unfortunate that our main fast bowlers were not fit. The new players did perform but couldn’t execute the way we wanted. When things were in our hands we had soft dismissals in those times and due to that, we couldn’t win matches that we should have won. Fitness has the main role because if you are not extra fit you cannot compete in all three formats. You get two to three days to switch from one format to the other and you have to be mentally ready as well."
Speaking of fast bowlers, Shaheen Afridi missed the series because of a knee injury. Then, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah also sustained injuries during the first test which ruled them out for the last two matches. But, after the Karachi Test, Afridi showed support for Babar Azam by sharing a picture of the Pakistan team. He shared it with a caption: “Babar Azam Hamari or Pakistan ki Shan, jaan or pehchan hai. Wo Hamara kaptaan hai or rahe ga. Kuch or #sochnabhimanah hai. Please support this team. Yahi team hame jitaye gi bhi. Kahani abhi Khatam nahi howi. #Respect.” But, fans did not like it as they started to slam him for showing support for Babar Azam despite his epic failure as a skipper.
