'A comprehensive run-chase' - Fans react as Barbados Royals beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in high-scoring affair in CPL 2023

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots locked horns with the Barbados Royals in the 10th match of the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023. Royals’ skipper Rovman Powell won the toss and asked the opponents to bat first. Batting first, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots posted a decent total of 197 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. But the visitors chased down the target and ended up winning the match by 6 wickets.

Opener Andre Fletcher played a crucial knock of 51 runs with five boundaries and three sixes. Other than him, lower-order batter Corbin Bosch and middle-order batter Sherfane Rutherford contributed with knocks of 38 and 28 runs, respectively. Qais Ahmad bowled a very economical spell for Barbados Royals, he scalped 2 wickets after conceding only 16 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Alongside him, Nyeem Young also picked 2 wickets but he was very costly for his side as he conceded 54 runs in just 3.5 overs.

While chasing the target, Royals got a good start of 58 runs for the first wicket before star opener Rahkeem Cornwall got out after a fiery knock of 38 runs off just 15 balls, including 3 fours and 4 sixes with the bat. The other opener Kyle Mayers also contributed with 31 runs off just 17 balls, including four boundaries and a six.

It was none other than the skipper Rovman Powell, who smashed a match-defining knock of 67 runs off just 29 balls, hitting five fours and as many sixes. These knocks helped the visitors to comfortably chase down the target in 18.3 overs, scoring 200 runs for the loss of 4 wickets and winning the match by a margin of 6 wickets.

Dominic Drakes scalped two wickets for his side in the second innings, alongside one wicket each picked by Ashmead Nedd and Corbin Bosch. Qais Ahmad won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant spell in favour of the Barbados Royals.
