Team India will look to kick off the new year, 2023 in a winning way when they will face Sri Lanka at home. First, they will play a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series. However, fans were not happy with the overall performance of the team in the last year, 2022.

The Men in Blue failed to win major titles like Asia Cup and the 20-20 World Cup. Then, India also lost the last ODI series of that year in Bangladesh. So, it was a forgettable year for both the players and fans. Hence, fans will hope for some big and better results this year from team India players.

Here are the Top Five Wishes from Fans for Team India and their Players in 2023:

Virat Kohli to reach 50 ODI centuries

This star batter was struggling for scoring a hundred in any format of the game since 2019. Finally, Virat Kohli brought back smiles on his fans’ faces when he hit his 71st International hundred after a gap of 1021 days. It came in the Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan in a 20-20 format.

However, then he scored his 72nd International hundred also in an ODI game against Bangladesh. It was Kohli’s 44th ODI ton in 256 innings. In 2023, the Men in Blue will play many ODIs along with the ODI World Cup in India. So, fans will hope that the former India skipper can easily reach the 50 ODI century mark in 2023.

Rohit Sharma to reach 10000 ODI runs

The current India skipper has been struggling to score runs in recent matches for team India. 2022 was a forgettable year for Rohit Sharma as he failed to score a single International ton across any format for the first time in a calendar year since 2013. As of now, Rohit has played 235 ODIs for team India.

In those matches, he has scored 9454 runs, at an average of 48.73. So, fans will hope to see him crossing the 10000 ODI-run mark in this format with so many matches coming along with the ODI World Cup in India. Currently, he is nursing his thumb injury. Rohit will be back in action in the three-match ODI series at home against Sri Lanka, starting on 10 January 2023.

Virat Kohli to become the quickest to score 13000 ODI runs

The former India skipper has always been a star player for team India in the ODI format. Virat Kohli has represented the Men in Blue in 265 ODIs. In 256 innings, he has scored 12471 runs, at an average of 57.47. So, fans will hope to see him becoming the quickest one to reach the 13000-ODI run mark in 2023.

Currently, legendary Indian Cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar is the quickest one to score 13000 ODI runs in 321 innings. So, Kohli still has 65 innings to score only 529 runs to reach that milestone. With so many ODIs coming in this new year, fans will hope that it will be the easiest chance for Kohli to reach this landmark.

In 2022, Indian Cricket team fans were hoping for some good results from the team in the major tournaments. First, they failed to win the Asia Cup. Then, England thrashed them in the semi-final of the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. So, the Men in Blue failed to win any major tournaments.

Now, in 2023, they have a chance to win the World Test Championship final, Asia Cup, and 50-over World Cup in India. In the last edition of the World Test Championship, India lost to the Kiwis in the final. Currently, Rohit Sharma and his men are most likely to get qualified for the final against the Aussies. So, fans will hope for major trophies this time around in this new year.

In 2022, many big players from team India faced severe injuries. Still, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are out of action. They will look to make a comeback against Australia at home in the Test series. Jadeja got injured after playing two matches in the Asia Cup and missed the 20-20 World Cup. Bumrah also missed both tournaments for injury.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant met with a terrible road accident on the Narsan border of Roorkee near Hammadpur Jhal on 30 December 2022. Regarding his current condition, Dr. Qamar Azam at the AIIMS Rishikesh said, “Pant will take at least three to six months to recover from the ligament injury. And if it’s severe, he may take more time. Further evaluation can be based on his detailed injury report.” So, fans will pray and hope that star players like them should get fit quickly and make a solid comeback to the team.
