It was also a ‘win for ages’ as a lot of experts named it the announcement of the new generation’s arrival in Tennis.

In the gruesome five-set match, Alcaraz dominated the Serb legend by a margin of 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, and 6-4 winning three out of five sets. Alcaraz’s win also extended Djokovic’s wait to equal the record for most Grand Slam singles titles which is 24 to the name of Margaret Court. He will also have to wait to equal Roger Federer’s record of lifting eight titles in the coveted Wimbledon Championship.

The fans were also elated and overjoyed after Alcaraz’s sensational title win after defeating the 35-year-old tennis great. They took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to lavish praises on the young Spanish prodigy.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Apart from this, the 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic also showered praises on the youngster who defeated him to lift the Wimbledon title for the first time.

"I think people have been talking in the past 12 months or so about his game consisting of certain elements from Roger, Rafa, and myself. I would agree with that. I think he's got basically the best of all three worlds,” said Djokovic after the end of the match against Alcaraz.

“He's got this mental resilience and really maturity for someone who is 20 years old. It's quite impressive. He's got this Spanish bull mentality of competitiveness and fighting spirit and incredible defense that we've seen with Rafa over the years,” he added later. Furthermore, Djokovic also spoke about Alcaraz’s skills on the court and his capability to adapt to situations accordingly.

"And I think he's got some nice sliding backhands that he's got some similarities with my backhands. Yeah, two-handed backhands, defense, being able to adapt. I think that has been my personal strength for many years. He has it, too," said Djokovic
